Sunday 24th June
The day will be run by Johnny Tidd (see below for more) and supported by Martin Jakes, in Sladebank Woods on the Stroud fringe

Make a bow drill and make fire without matches
Come set your world on fire and rub sticks together to make flames!
Start with listening and learning about knife safety. We will give full instruction on knife use and safety.
We will demonstrate how to make a coal from scratch. Then with this confidence, you will be able hopefully to make your first coal, a little gift from nature, and that fire will stay in your heart forever. There will be time learn how to whittle one or two parts of a bow drill kit.
A working bow from hazel or chestnut
Yes, it’s here, what all kids (and adults!) want to do; make your own REAL ‘quickie’ bow .
Listen and learn about knife and axe usage and safety.
You will start by whittling your stave with an axe and carve it into a bow; we will have different size staves for different ages..
We will show you the basics of bow making to whet your appetite for greater things.
And you will leave with a small bow that can really shoot arrows by the end of the day!

About Johnny Tidd
I want to expose young people to the wonder and power of the woods. I am planning a series of courses from the basics up to advanced levels in many different primitive, paleolithic  subjects, including, bows, archery, tracking, stone tools, basketry, stealth movement, camouflage, stalking, bird language, and hunting to name a few.. .
I have had an unquenchable thirst for this path for the last 7 years and can deliver expert advice throughout all these various subjects. I have lived in the jungles of Mexico and have studied all over the world, always pushing myself further towards being able to completely thrive in the wild.
